Large companies and Family Offices invest in startups

The investment in Venture Capital has been conquering the Chilean Family Offices. More and more are those who bet on investment in nascent technological companies, providing not only with capital but also their know-how.

And the same thing is happening with large corporations and businesses, which in addition to creating their CVC vehicles, are incorporated into this asset by investing in professionalized funds.

Francisco Guzmán, President of ACVC, and Sebastián González, Director of ACVC, commented to La Tercera the great growth and interest on the part of the industry.

“The investment in venture capital by definition is countercyclical, being especially attractive in periods of economic contraction. This was demonstrated by the year 2020, in which despite the problems that Covid-19 brought, the investment in technological startups came to their record worldwide,” says the president of the Chilean Association of Venture Capital, Francisco Guzmán.

In favor of this idea, he postulates that there are Chilean technological companies in all phases of development, from very early stages to companies that have been internationalized with valuations over the hundreds of millions of dollars. “The development in Chile of an ecosystem favorable to technological entrepreneurship is not an isolated phenomenon, but it is the fruit of several years of work by the public and private sector,” explains the president of the Association of Venture Capital.
