The VC Latam Summit 2024 had an excellent second day. The day began with a networking breakfast, which gave way to welcoming remarks by Magdalena Guzmán, executive director of the ACVC.
This was followed by the first panel of the day: "From entrepreneurs to investors; experience and vision". The panel had as guests Guto Araujo, General Partner of monashees, and Alfredo Castellanos, Managing Partner of Glisco Partners, and was moderated by Paola GarcÃa, executive director of ColCapital.
The focus then turned to VC and climatetech, and the question of whether Latam is ready for them. Oscar Leria Luksic, Principal of WildSur Inversiones, and Rogelio De los Santos, Managing Partner of Dalus Capital, discussed the topic with the moderation of Edgar Parra, Senior Investment Officer of IDB Lab.
Just before lunch Francisco Guzman, president of lat ACVC, led the conversation between Federico Storani, Executive Director of Riverwood Capital, and Eduardo della Maggiora, Founder and CEO of Betterfly, about the journey that both investors and unicorns take.
After the break, attendees were able to listen to a numerical analysis by Carlos Ramos de la Vega, Venture Capital Director of LAVCA, on what is happening in the VC industry in the region.
Then Carolina Cardenas, Resident Representative for the Dominican Republic and Haiti of the IFC - International Finance Corporation, moderated the panel "The role of equity and debt on the path to expansion", where Igor Piquet, Head of LATAM of Endeavor Catalyst, and Julia Figueiredo, Director LATAM & US of Partners for Growth, shared their ideas.
After a short break, four roundtables began in parallel. The activity that took place for the first time at the summit, and which allowed for more direct interaction with the audience, focused on diversity; deeptech; AI and machine learning; and Web 3.
The last panel of the day was led by Andy Tsao, Head of Global Gateway at Silicon Valley Bank, who had an interesting conversation about exits in the region with Shu Nyatta, Co Founder and Managing Partner of Bicycle Capital, and Brittany Ruiz, Partner at Latham & Watkins.
The interesting and intense agenda ended with the "eMerge startup demoday", where several startups presented their proposals to potential investors.
