The VC Latam Summit 2024, organized by the 12 private equity associations in Latin America: ABVCAP, ACVC, AMEXCAP, ARCAP, BOCAP, CAPCA, COLCAPITAL, ECUACAP, PARCAPY, PECAP, URUCAP, and VENECAPITAL, got off to a strong start.
This fourth version of the event was attended by 320 attendees who were able to meet, network and strengthen ties to further develop the Venture Capital industry in the region. There were two days where 180 GPs, 75 LPs and 65 people from the ecosystem participated in panels and various networking activities.
The event began last Tuesday 16 with welcoming remarks by Francisco Guzman, president of the ACVC, highlighting the progress that the event has made in its four years, and thanking the support of this year's sponsors: the gold Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Carey; and the silver CAF -development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean-, EY, Latham & Watkins, PAG LAW, SVB, and Winston & Strawn LLP.
Then Melissa Medina and Manny Medina, representing eMerge Americas, spoke about how the summit fits perfectly into the current state of the hashtag#Miami ecosystem.
This was followed by the first panel of the day, "Capital Allocation, Returns and Exit at the End of the Road", which was moderated by Cristóbal Silva, Managing Partner of Kayyak Ventures, with the participation of John Crowell, Latam leader of Accel-KKR, and Paulo Passoni, Managing Partner of Valor Capital Group.
"Stories of Growth and Consolidation; How Markets Achieve Success", was the second panel of the day and was moderated by Cristián Eyzaguirre, Partner at Carey, and was also attended by Bobby Franklin, President and CEO of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), and Kim Furlong, Executive Director of the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA).
Then it was time for the most anticipated activity of the agenda, the speed dating between LP's and GP's from Latam and Miami. The space allowed for valuable networking opportunities and eventual financing matches.
In parallel, the "Demo day by AWS" was also held, where 10 selected startups from Latam sought to attract the attention of the VCs present.
This first day had a great closing with the "Welcome Yacht Cocktail by Carey", where in addition to enjoying the Miami skyline from the water, attendees continued networking and exchanging ideas.
